Learn basic information about the treatment options for kidney failure, pros & cons of each, the lifestyle implications of treatment choice, and the importance of the patient’s role in choosing a treatment. This module emphasizes the benefits of more dialysis and availability of home treatment options. The purpose of Kidney School CE courses is to educate renal professionals about the medical and psychosocial impacts of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), as well as patients’ experience of coping with this chronic condition.

Objectives

After taking this course, participants will be able to:

  • List the four treatment options for ESKD
  • Describe the peritoneal dialysis process
  • Describe the hemodialysis process (in-center and home)
  • Describe the transplantation process and identify two sources of kidneys for transplant
