A review of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) core elements of antibiotic stewardship and how it relates to the use of antibiotics in the dialysis facility. Looking at the set of commitments and actions designed to “optimize the treatment of infections while reducing the adverse events associated with antibiotic use.” Practical ways that dialysis facilities and staff can initiate or expand antibiotic stewardship to involve patients.

- Describe and discuss the definition of antibiotic stewardship.
- List at least 3 ways patients and families can help with antibiotic stewardship.
- State the types of patients most at risk for severe infections
