Module 15 of Kidney School provides information about alternative treatments like acupuncture, massage, herbs, and homeopathy and how they may improve or impair the health of people with chronic kidney disease. This module also discusses which treatments are safe for dialysis patients. The purpose of Kidney School Continuing Education courses is to enable the learner to better understand the medical and psychosocial impacts of end stage kidney disease, as well as patients’ experience managing this chronic condition.
Objectives
After taking this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain which types of alternative treatment may or may not be safe for people on dialysis and why.
- Describe each of the major types of alternative therapies, including benefits and risks to people with kidney disease.
- List four herbs that can be harmful to people with kidney disease.
