Endovascular AV Fistula Creation and Use

For the first time in over 50 years, there is a major change in arteriovenous fistula creation. Endovascular arteriovenous fistulas are likely to become more common and you will need to know how they are created, their benefits, as well as care and cannulation of this new dialysis access.

Course Objectives:

  1. Discuss three differences between creation of a surgical and an endovascular (endo) arteriovenous (AV) fistula (F).
  2. Outline three potential benefits of an endoAVF for patients.
  3. List three signs that an endoAVF is mature and ready for cannulation.
  4. Describe the process of cannulating an endoAVF.
