Module 5 of Kidney School provides information on common emotions experienced by chronic kidney disease patients, as well as coping strategies that might be useful. The purpose of Kidney School Continuing Education courses is to educate renal professionals about the medical and psychosocial impacts of end stage kidney disease, as well as patients’ experience of managing this chronic condition.

Objectives

After taking this course, participants will be able to:

  • List common emotions experienced by CKD patients and distinguish differences between them
  • Give examples of community coping resources
  • Describe how healthcare providers can assist CKD patients to cope with different emotions
  • Identify coping techniques patients can be encouraged to utilize
